Collage Artwork with TShirt Scraps

All the little tidbits and scraps from the tshirts are piling up.  I can't resist them so I started a little piece last night.  I'm unsure what it will become but I'm leaning towards a bit of abstract wall art.  The backing is about 23" square & there's a thin piece of batting underneath.

What do you think?

New Series: Improvisational TShirt Quilts

Here's a little peek at some recent activity in my studio.  My current work is like a tumbleweed that keeps on moving across ground.  One piece from a previous quilt becomes the basis of the next quilt.  These are tshirt knits and a little scrap of double knit.  All reclaimed from clothes.

The starting point; jumping off point!

Lots of smaller pieces to be worked into focal blocks or strips.

These knit tops will be used for larger blocks of interest and impact.

I anticipate the main composition sitting on a background of grey and beige neutrals.

I like to keep my Improvisational quilts free and spontaneous.  I have a few general guidelines or ideas I want to try but then, I get out of my own way and go with the composition intuitively.

Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project

Image may contain: table and indoor

I was gifted 2 sewing machines from a church member.  They will be wonderful for the big project I have planned!  So excited!  The Elna is exactly like the one I stitched on from 1983-2005 before I bought my Janome.  Old Friends!

I've also finished quilting a quilt top another quilter sent me.  It is destined for North Carolina as part of the Carolina Hurricane Quilt Project.  Little 1" log cabin logs required I scale down my wild and crazy swirls!  :-)

Reconstructed Bench

Gene's Bench constructed from a Headboard made its debut at the Midtown Valentine's Market last weekend.  It's a great piece!  He's very inspired to make another bench from the set's footboard.  I love the turquoise table sitting next to the bench!

It was 43° with wind so unpleasant on all counts.  I visited with a few people about their ideas so that is always fun.  Otherwise, I like warmer weather and lots of people at markets.  Spring is coming!

Some projects just take a little longer than others.
When I took a good look at this piece last week I realized I was so close to finishing it.
  So I did!
This was started in 2014 when I learned to take designs and turn them into cross stitch on my embroidery machine.  I felt at the time like I might use the technique for a lot of projects but that hasn't come to fruition.  :-)   But then, never say never!

Virgin Mary: Working out the Details

I've worked out the details that define Our Lady better.
I'll be spending the day with Her enjoying some stitching.

I'm so proud of myself for not pulling out every supply I own and gnashing my teeth endlessly over the outcome.  I think I've come a long way in the past few years!

Madonna Wall Hanging

Those who have known me a long time know I have a love for the Virgin Mary.  I've explored a lot of ideas to interpret Her in cloth.  Along with my friend Barbara we formed The Madonna Idea, a blog devoted to our various projects.  It looks like the last entry was in 2010 but I know there have been a few more sewn past that time.
In 2014 I started some small Madonna wall hangings. When I closed my old studio and moved into my current studio they were packed away.  When I recently unpacked them during my studio organization, I decided it was time to finish them.  They will be offered for sale at the upcoming art markets.

The 1st one is this lovely Madonna piece. I pulled this image off the previous background and put it on a new patchwork background.  This background is a reclaimed pillow sham.  I like to buy these pieces at the thrift store because they finish nicely into table runners or table toppers.  This one will be a good background for the wall hanging.  I would never take the time to piece a Trip Around the World patchwork piece but I am eager to use this piece!

I guarantee this has possibilities!  It looks a little shabby here.  Give me time.
I'll show the progress here.  So stop by again!
