Improv Quilts, no. 5

I sewed the binding to this quilt over the weekend. I don't like to get too many quilt tops to an almost finished place and then move on. I prefer to finish them first. So I was able to bind this and  Improv Quilts, no. 2 this weekend.  I still have Improv Quilts, no. 3 to square up and bind which I plan to accomplish today.

I enjoy seeing the wide mix of fabrics in these quilts.  This one includes some very 1990s prints, brand new contemporary prints, sheeting, shirtings, some camouflage prints leftover from apronmaking projects and some wild prints I knew I would be using for art quilts but which never happened!
While modern looking they still rely on the time honored thrifty practice of patchwork quilts sewn from available household fabrics.

The backing on this quilt is flannel printed with a sports motif.

  1. I think the reason I like these quilts is that even though they are modern, there's some simple order to them, and they remind me of quilts from my past. That's a beauty!

  2. I love the fact that there are busy areas and restful areas in this quilt. My eyes would be continuously traveling around , appreciating the patterns and colors and how they interact with each other and tell their stories. Beautiful!
