Preparations for New Projects

With the looming hurricane (#hurricaneharvey), I wanted to prepare fabrics to cut in case the electricity goes out.

Pieces chosen, ironed and prepped for cutting.  This stack will become 15 grocery tote bags.  Lot of wonderful color and print combinations

Leftover strips will become table runners or small wall hangings

Very small pieces for a collage artwork

enough scraps for an improvisational quilt

Christening Blanket Finished

This was a custom christening blanket sewn from a grandmother's wedding gown.  She anticipates embroidering names of grandbabies in the border squares.  It's so lovely and delicate.

I am always humbled that someone hands me a precious family item and asks me to remake it for them.

Do you have something tucked away that could be remade?  Email me.

Ring Bearer's Pillow

The mother's wedding dress that is being sewn into a family christening blanket is also being sewn into a ring bearer's pillow.

Such a pretty pillow!

Markets

This summer I started selling my artwork at local art and farmers markets.  It's been a huge learning experience but one I am thankful to have.
I love Houston!
It's so full of energy and people with all kinds of stories.  One of the important reasons I quilt is so I can tell people's stories.  The fabric of their lives tells such rich history to those willing to listen.

A service I offer those interested is to use their clothes to sew a wall hanging or other item of memorabilia.  If you are interested, contact me through my email address.  It is listed on About Debra page.  I am happy to listen to your story and tell it through fabric to the world.

Christening Blanket

Waiting for the mother to give me her approval before I cut any more pieces.  This is the bottom border of the christening blanket.  So lovely!

Wedding Dress

I was recently hired to transform a mother's wedding dress into a family heirloom christening blanket.

She has 2 grandchildren who will be christened this fall and spring and she wants to contribute to their ceremony by presenting them with this christening blanket.

The quote she has chosen for the embroidered panel is:

. . . all are precious in His sight.

the sample stitch out to check for thread colors

It's a beautiful way to reuse her wedding gown.

Vintage Quilt Top

This vintage quilt top was sewn by the great grandmother of my client.  It has been stored in the attic for 30+ years.  My client decided it was time to have it quilted.  She is moving to a new house and this will be on her bed.

I love a happy ending!
