Reconstructed Clothes: Tunic/Poncho

This tunic just kinda evolved!  Sometimes that happens.  :-)  I love the quirky freedom!  So fun!

Out and About in Houston: Goode Company Kitchen & Cantina

Houston has a new Mexican restaurant called Goode Company Kitchen and Cantina.  Goode Company is known mainly for their BBQ but I think they've very successfully broken into the mexican food business.  If nothing else, the interior of their Houston location is fabulous!  It's a great mix of the modern with true vintage relics.  I love it!

Recent Thrift Finds

Every time I visit my favorite thrift store I can find some kind of treasure; whether it is in the household section or the clothing section.  I love that about the store!   Here are some recent household finds that came home with me.

This original serigraph signed by artist Simon Tashimoto may have some real value.  I'll be researching its value before selling it.

My newest Virgin Mary is now hanging over my desk.  So lovely.  I believe she has a nice Art Deco look.

I actually rescued this framed cross stitch piece from the catholic church garage sale last weekend.  It was marked $2 but I got it in the Fill Your Box (to overflowing) for $10.  When I came home and counted, I had 40 items/$10.  I'm a sucker for vintage needlework.

I love this box all the way to the moon and back.

I have it on my (overflowing and very crowded) desk so I doubt I'll use it as a jewelry box.  So fabulous!

I'm pretty sure this is an original painting.  So fun and spirited!  No way I could resist it!

My son collects Frankoma pottery which was originally made from Oklahoma red clay.
I found this little bean pot for $5 for him.

Treasures Abound!  :-)

Patchwork Poncho: For Sale

The 1st poncho in my new series is Live and For Sale!  So excited!  These are going to be delightfully fun to sew and wear!  They can also be custom sewn if you would like your own loved tshirts sewn into a poncho.  Think of the possibilities!

Lots of great sherbet colors!
Some fun cheerful patches!
and Reclaimed Tshirts!
 It's a Winner!

Starting a Conversation: Clothes Connection

I was looking through some piles and realized  I had totally forgotten about this dress.  It was actually buried in a pile; one of many piles in my studio currently.  To say I have a lot on my mind is an understatement.  I had lunch with the website developer & decided to wear it.

I accessorized it with a multi-bead necklace I strung many years ago, my new Day of the Dead skull earrings and I pulled my hair up and added fabric flowers around the ponytail.  I also wore it as a long tunic over a straight denim skirt with my Converse tennis shoes.  I felt very festive!

As we were sitting down one of the restaurant attendants came over and told me how much she loved my whole outfit.  Aww, that was so sweet.  It's a wonderful gesture to compliment someone.  I don't think we do it enough.   If my clothes can start a conversation with someone, that's wonderful.  I believe any time we can genuinely and authentically connect with someone both of our worlds are enriched.

Here I am later in the evening after my Stephen Ministry meeting.

Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart

I had a lovely Sunday touring the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown Houston.  It was a docent led tour so there was plenty of wonderful information.  It's a beautiful church where I spent a little time out of the dreadful 100° Houston heat.

The mission of the architectural firm was to build a long-lasting structure that would show the Heart of Christ in the Heart of Houston.

My favorites were the statues of the Saints and the statue of Virgin Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The wooden background is painted to give the illusion of light reflected.  There are 2 side windows but that is the only light coming in on either sculpture.

I loved the statues on the side walls of the cathedral.  There were 3 on each side with a prayer station below them.

Saint Juan Diego

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton

Saint Martin De Porres

Saint Joseph

Saint Therese of Lisieux

St. Anthony of Padua

Such a beautiful space!

I am so happy to have returned to Houston.
I love opportunities to be a tourist in my own hometown.
