Sweet 1950s Baby Quilt

I recently picked up this commission from a church friend.  She wants it finished so she can give it to her soon-to-be born grandnephew at Christmas.  Isn't it just sweet?  Those of us who were born in the 1950s probably had a similar quilt.  I know I did.  I haven't hand quilted in years but I'm sure I remember how!

  1. It's cute. Is this an heirloom started by someone in her family? I'm sure you'll do a great job on it.

    1. Her friend's mother started it (in the 1950s) and recently the friend gave it to her to give to the grandnephew. She thought it only needed to be bound but on closer inspection we discovered the quilting was not finished.

  2. I love this style of quilt, I used to make these for new babies with nursery rhyme motifs. The embroidery the maker chose is charming.

    1. So typical of the times! Doll with blonde hair. Where were the brunettes?

The hand embroidery is quite nice-outline stitch-also so popular for these quilts.
