The 1st layer with the large patches are sewn. Now I am adding the smaller patches as a 2nd layer.
I decided to add a thin backing. I bought this thrifted scarf which I think will add a nice finish to the shawl. I plan to add buttons scattered around to hold the backing to the front. This is all freehand stitched on the longarm.

I look forward to seeing it taken off the machine and wrapped around you. I am having difficulty seeing it as a scarf, though I like all the things you've shown about it.
